In addition to all the other great birthday wishes and stuff that happened yesterday, two surprises made the day:
1. carrot-cake cupcakes delivered by messenger (Jenny), made by the always thoughtful and talented Melissa
2. a plastering of birthday-captioned ninjas, hoboes, monkeys, Trek calendar pages, and more all over my apartment, plus balloons and a not-quite-inflated giant palm tree draped over the shower curtain rod. A la Jenny, with Chris K and Mary as collaborators. Mary made me an awesome card, too, featuring drawings of, ta daa: a Cat, a Monkey, a piece of Pie, a Ninja, and a Hobo. And me with a red water bottle.
